Partial Meniscectomy

Catherine Logan

There are many types of meniscal tears – some are more readily reparable that others. Multiple factors are considered with regard to meniscal repair – tear type, tear location (relative to good blood supply), chronicity of the tear, for example. The goal is to repair the meniscus if at all possible, but in the case that it cannot be repaired, the damaged meniscal tissue is removed (“meniscectomy”), leaving a stable rim of meniscal tissue.
