Open Biceps Tenodesis

Catherine Logan

Biceps tenodesis is a treatment utilized to manage injuries that have resulted in a tear or in chronic inflammation of the long head biceps tendon (LHBT). Pain from the biceps tendon is commonly in the front part of the shoulder and may extend down toward the elbow. An injury to the LHBT may also involve the superior aspect of the labrum within the shoulder joint. Decision to proceed with a labral repair versus an Open Biceps Tenodesis is based on the patient’s age and preferred activities.
