Catherine Logan, MD, MBA, MSPT, is a sports medicine orthopaedic surgeon specializing in complex knee and shoulder surgery at Colorado Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics (COSMO) located in Denver, Colorado. As a former physical therapist and personal trainer, Dr. Logan provides a distinct expertise in sports injury, prevention, surgical management, and recovery.
A different perspective
Dr. Logan began her career as a physical therapist, working at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, before moving to smaller sport-medicine-focused clinics. During her seven years as a therapist, Dr. Logan also worked as a certified personal trainer and Pilates instructor, enabling her to broaden her knowledge of rehabilitation, injury prevention, sports performance, and recovery.
A history of academic excellence
After her transition from physical therapy, Dr. Logan excelled at the Tufts School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, where she earned multiple clinical and research awards while simultaneously earning her Master of Business Administration (M.B.A). Dr. Logan stayed in Boston, where she completed the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency program. During her time at Harvard, Dr. Logan studied the epidemiology and management of discoid meniscus and was the Editor-in-Chief of the Orthopaedic Journal of the Harvard Medical School. Following residency, Dr. Logan completed her sports medicine fellowship at the world-renowned Steadman Philippon Research Institute/The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Leadership outside COSMO
Dr. Logan is highly accomplished outside the clinic through her sports team coverage, clinical research and writing, and industry involvement.
Team relationships
In the winter Dr. Logan can be found on the mountain as a team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams. She also served as the inaugural Premier Lacrosse League Medical Director and Head League Physician, developing their medical team from the ground up. She was thrilled to be selected as a Team Physician for mens USA Lacrosse and looks forward to the World Championships next year in Utica, NY.
Research and writing
Dr. Logan’s research has been published in top-tier orthopaedic surgery journals, addressing topics ranging from knee and shoulder surgical techniques to optimizing post-operative rehabilitation. Additionally, with the concentration of her research drawing from her background in physical therapy and expertise in prevention, performance, and recovery, Dr. Logan is a regular contributor to industry fitness journals and health magazines such as SHAPE Magazine, IDEA Health & Fitness, and Fitness Magazine. Additionally, she co-hosts The Sports Docs Podcast.
